A Spoonful of Sugar Helps

A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. Yesterday in a mediation: “I really do not intend to hurt you.” Followed by a written list of things the other person should change. You can imagine how the other person felt. Right: she felt hurt.

Yesterday in a mediation:

“I really do not intend to hurt you.” Followed by a written list of things the other person should change.

You can imagine how the other person felt.  Right: she felt hurt.

In my coachings and mediations over recent weeks I came up against a few situations where it was hard for me to understand why people so adamantly insisted on their point of view about the world and the other person.

Even if someone seems to be “difficult” – why is it so hard to listen and try to understand what the reasons are for a specific behavior and maybe then to try to understand those reasons.

Not liking the reasons, but understanding them.

Here is my encouragement for everyone:

Always presume GOOD reasons in everybody.

Just think the best of other people.

Put on your rose-tinted spectacles.

Show a robust friendliness – robust but not exploitable.

Eat more sweets.

You will see – it helps, mainly because you will feel better.
